C-L's GUIDANCE OFFICE

By Holly Buzard

Who works there? Mainly three people handle the guidance office. They are:

Mr.Standfest, is the new guidance counselor in the Jr./Sr. High School. Mr. Horn, is the elementary and part-time high-school guidance counselor. And of course Mrs. Beers is the guidance secretary.

What does Guidance do? The guidance office helps in many different ways. Mr. Standfest and Mr. Horn are always ready to listen if a student has a problem they need help with. If they can, they will help you – if not, they’ll tell you who can. The guidance office supplies applications for certain scholarships and schools and sometimes brings in people from colleges that students can meet with. The guidance office is also the place where students can sign up for tests like the PSAT and SAT. If a student needs to find an application or sign up for a test, they should talk to Mrs. Beers and she can help them find what they are looking for.

What about confidentiality? To most high-school students, confidentiality is extremely important and the guidance office ensures that everything will be kept confidential unless they decide that a student is endangering him/herself, someone else, or needs professional help. In that case, the appropriate people will be informed of the situation. That is the only time confidentiality may be broken.
