Every student will become a positive contributor to the global community.
The Clarion-Limestone School District is a small rural school district comprised of one elementary school (grades kindergarten through six) and one high school (grades seven through 12) that educates approximately 1,100 students. The district employs six administrators, 87 teachers and 46 support staff members.
Clarion-Limestone gives students a wide variety of academic and extracurricular offerings from which to choose. In the elementary schools, the district aims to facilitate the intellectual and physical growth of students through a strong emphasis on basic educational skills and extracurricular activities. Clarion-Limestone is also committed to providing the support services necessary to assist with the specific learning needs of children.
The percentage of low-income students averages 33% at the elementary level and 24% as the secondary level. The district exceeds state benchmark averages as defined by PSSA tests. District students have met AYP (adequate yearly progress) goals for three consecutive years. The district has an exceptionally above-average number of classes with 20 or fewer students, a well-below average of professional personnel turnover rate. Over 60% of graduates attend college, with 88% of students attending some form of education after graduation. This accomplishment can be traced to a wide range of course offerings, including advanced placement courses.
The Clarion-Limestone High School understands its role as the educator of preadolescent and early adolescent youth, and accomplishes this task by offering a broad curriculum in conjunction with programs that address the identity, self-concept and personal security needs of middle school-aged students. Certainly, the district works hard to provide a smooth transition for the students in grades seven and eight as they move onto high school.
In an effort to continuously improve student achievement and comply with “No Child Left Behind” standards, the board decided to use the $129,258 accountability grant toward funding full-day kindergarten for the first time starting in the 2004-05 school year.
Part of this success comes from the district’s commitment to every student. There is tutoring available at the high school during the regular school day through the “ASAP Program.” After school tutoring is available for elementary students through the “After Four Club.”
Without question, Clarion-Limestone also enjoys strong student support for these programs as well. Several sports programs have proven to be quite competitive, and the district offers a full compliment of boys and girls sports.
It is clearly the goal of the Clarion-Limestone Area School District to offer a wide range of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular programs that will ultimately produce citizens committed to serving their communities as employers, employees, family members and participants in their respective communities.
